COVID-19 is spread from person to person mostly through coughing or sneezing. The time it takes for symptoms to appear is usually between 2 and 14 days, with an average of 5 days.  Frequent hand washing, keeping distance from people who are coughing and not touching the face without washing hands are the measures to prevent this disease.  It is recommended to cover the nose and mouth with a handkerchief or bent elbow when coughing.  The World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that people who suspect they have the virus wear a face mask and see a doctor in person.  Masks are also recommended for people caring for suspected infectious people.  The mortality rate of this disease is estimated between 1% and 3%.

 The WHO has declared the 2019-20 coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency of international concern.  By March 7, 2020, the disease had spread to different countries in 6 continents.  On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared it an epidemic.

 Since the beginning of 2021, various vaccine programs have started around the world.  Covaccine and CovidShield vaccines are available in India.
